JOB TITLE: Heritage Officer (Part Time)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director
LOCATION: Soho House Visitor Centre, Handsworth
SALARY: £24,000, pro rata
HOURS: 18 hours per week
TERMS: Fixed term contract for three years, subject to a three month probationary period
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Heritage Officer is a key appointment for Legacy WM. Its main purpose will be to develop, promote and deliver the Legacy WM’s ‘Heritage Trail’. This will build on the work that has been done through the original heritage trail in the Lozells and East Handsworth area, which focuses on ten key local heritage sights. The trail has started to promote the area from one that has had a negative portrayal in the media to one that has a rich heritage offer. We are now in a position to develop this long trail into four shorter walks; ‘Soho’, ‘Pugin’, ‘Secret Gardens’ and ‘Roots, Rights and Resistance Trail’. The trails will also focus on the post war period and the impact of migration and settlement on the heritage and historic environment of the area. The role will also include taking people on tours, recruiting and training volunteers as tour guides and promoting the tours to outside agencies.
The post is funded by Historic England.
We are always on the lookout for good volunteers and there are a number of ways you can help us out. Our current volunteer opportunities are:
- Volunteer Health Champion
- Volunteer Walk Leader
- Volunteer Press Officer
