About this event

Presented by Simmer Down Arts, Birmingham's premier reggae music and arts development agency. Don't miss this excellent musical play, set in a black community radio station.

On a rainy evening in May 1964, Granada Studios broadcast a gospel concert in a disused railway station in Manchester. For the star of the show, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, it was an opportunity to revive her gospel career. For young Brits, the chance to see the type of African American performer they'd only heard on the radio.

Glory recalls Rosetta's life during a late night radio show presented by DJ Griot. Through Rosetta's remarkable story of faith and sisterhood, connect with the deep, spiritual roots of rock 'n' roll and journey back through the music that broke the colour bar.
