Join us for the unveiling of a major new public artwork commemorating 60 years since Malcolm X’s visit to Smethwick in 1965. Commissioned by Legacy West Midlands and designed by internationally acclaimed artist Bunny Bread (Create Not Destroy), this powerful artwork highlights Malcolm X’s global fight against racism and the struggles faced by Black and Asian communities in the UK.
Featuring the stories of Avtar Singh Jouhl (Indian Workers Association) and Claudia Jones (founder of London’s first Caribbean Carnival), the piece connects past and present struggles for racial justice.
The event will include reflections from activists, historians, and artists, ensuring that Malcolm X’s legacy remains alive today.
