We have supported Community Connect Foundation (CCF) with hosting the nowka Bais in Birmingham. We built on the success of the previous year by offering rowing taster sessions for local people. the practice by the local teams paid off as this year’s winners were from Birmingham. on the day several thousand people attended the event. there was a mela atmosphere with food stalls,a funfair, live stage performances and 18 national teams competing against each other. the event has become part of Birmingham’s cultural offer and we are exploring how we can link the live stage performances with the South Asian Year of Artists. The day was concluded with a gala dinner hosted by Nadia Ali from BBC Asian network. We plan to grow the Nowka Bais with more offers of fitness training leading up to the event to improve people’s health and well-being. We are exploring how this can be done as part of Sports england’s new funding strategy.
