We’re excited to announce that as part of the West Midlands Combined Authority ambition to double the social economy, Legacy West Midlands has been awarded funding by Barrow Cadbury Trust to support the development of a social economy cluster in Handsworth.

The aim of the funding is to support the local social economy (charities, social enterprises, unincorporated groups, and social entrepreneurs) to develop, strengthen and grow by providing initial support to create a place-based social economy development and investment plan.

We are working with social economy consultants at Development in Social Enterprise to support us to create an area wide investment plan, by providing local organisations and groups with practical support to help realise their own plans and ambitions.

We would therefore like to invite you to an initial cluster development session to be held at Soho House Museum, Soho Avenue, Birmingham B18 5LB on Thursday 1st August 2024 from 9.30AM – 12.30PM

This session will be facilitated by Legacy WM staff and our colleagues at Development in Social Enterprise which will:

Give an overview of the project and what it aims to achieve
Explain what we mean by the Social Economy
Provide an insight into the available legal structures and key attributes of each structure
Begin to consult on and consider the needs of the local social economy to enable it to thrive
Explain the practical support you will be able to access as part of the project
Identify the next steps in developing an area wide plan
Provide a space for connections, support, and networking with likeminded organisations.
