A mosaic designed and made by Claire Cotterill Co-created with the local community. Claire is a Birmingham based, multi-disciplinary artist working primarily in mosaic. Claire was commissioned by Legacy West Midlands to co-create a public artwork with members and friends of Midlands Sailing Club, celebrating the club’s history and its place within the unique environment of Edgbaston Reservoir.
The artwork takes a panoramic view of the reservoir and its locale, depicting some of the many activities it plays host to. The combination of archival and contemporary images portrays its heritage as a much-loved Birmingham destination across generations. Claire has worked with an emerging artist and the local community to create a fitting adornment to this landmark, accessible to all.
Commissioned by Legacy West Midlands, this installation forms part of an arts trail connecting the historic Roundhouse in Birmingham to Chance Glassworks in Smethwick entitled ‘Roundhouse to Chance Glassworks Arts Trail’. Legacy have brought together established and emerging artists and a range of community stakeholders through co-design and consultation sessions. These works celebrate the Commonwealth heritage of our communities and were realised with funding from Birmingham 2022 Festival, Arts Council England, Birmingham City Council, The Active Wellbeing Society, Historic England and The Saintbury Trust.
